Netflix Prize: Forum

I am so impressed how this Netflix contest turned out and the results are amazing. The science, engineering, and passion that the community displayed is truly astounding. I find  machine learning fascinating and envision that these types of applications help us in all walks of life and will only get better with the amount of data we collect and share.

I have a B.S. in Computer Science, but I haven't programmed in over 10 years so this stuff is way out of my league. However, I am really interested these topics. Are there some other online communities for these discussions? Also, does anyone know any firms that specialize in this programming? (I would like to develop a non-movie related system) Please PM me if you have any suggestions. Thanks.
